What is Direct Speech?

Definition (English)

Direct Speech is the exact words of the speaker written within quotation marks.


বাংলা সংজ্ঞা

বক্তার কথাকে হুবহু উদ্ধৃতি চিহ্ন (" ") ব্যবহার করে প্রকাশ করলে তাকে Direct Speech বলে।

What is Indirect Speech?

Definition (English)

Indirect Speech reports the speaker's words without using the exact quotation marks.


বাংলা সংজ্ঞা

বক্তার কথাকে উদ্ধৃতি চিহ্ন ছাড়া নিজের ভাষায় প্রকাশ করলে তাকে Indirect Speech বলে।

Narration-এর প্রধান দুটি অংশ রয়েছে।

যে অংশে বলা হয় কে কথা বলেছে।

Rule–1: Remove Inverted Commas

Indirect Speech-এ পরিবর্তন করার সময় Quotation Marks (" ") তুলে দিতে হবে।

He said that he was tired.


Rule–2: Use of "That"

Statement Sentence-এ সাধারণত that ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Rahim said, "It is raining."

Note: আধুনিক ইংরেজিতে অনেক সময় that বাদও দেওয়া যায়।


Rule–3: Reporting Verb

সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ।

যদি Reporting Verb Present বা Future Tense-এ থাকে, তাহলে সাধারণত Reported Speech-এর Tense পরিবর্তন হয় না।

Rule–4: Backshift of Tense

যদি Reporting Verb Past Tense-এ থাকে, তাহলে সাধারণত Reported Speech-এর Tense এক ধাপ পিছিয়ে যায়।
